Hello St. Valentine

Hello St. Valentine

Imprisoned for your goodwill
Yet you impacted love unconditionally

February 14th. A day in a year set aside for the honor of St. Valentine for the exchange of tokens of affection. It is also a time when people show feelings of love, affection and friendship usually in the form of cards, gifts, flowers, etc

Lovers day romantic gestures. Friends day remembrance. Nation’s day to mourn. Forbidden to participate. Severe punishment to participators. Chocolates day to men for an expected reprisal.
The above illustration tells us how February 14th is celebrated in some parts of the world.

Whenever you hear of valentine’s day, all that comes to mind is LOVE. Yes, Love is as critical for your mind and body as oxygen. It’s not negotiable. But you have to recognize the difference between LIMERENCE and LOVE. Limerence according to Wikipedia is a state of mind which results from a romantic attraction to another person which involves obsessive thoughts and fantasies and a desire to form or maintain a relationship with the object of love and have one’s feelings reciprocated. Though limerence can progress to love. Love mostly starts out as limerence, but limerence doesn’t always evolve into love. Love is a variety of different feelings, states and attitude that ranges from interpersonal affection to pleasure. It can also be a virtue representing human kindness, compassion and affection.

Valentine’s day to many is mostly celebrated among family members, friends and lovers. Looking back at how valentine’s day came to be, it was also shown to strangers. My point here is that a lot of persons both far and near need to be shown love. If we can use this opportunity to show love of human kindness, compassion and affection then I think we have justified the day. Love is an everyday act, but for the sake of the day which makes it pronounced to most people of the world, then let it be for the most people of the world. Thus, valentine’s day should be a special day of love by the people, with the people and for the people.

If love always rules, this world would be a better place. What can you do for love? Did you think it has to be for a day only? What is love if you hate…? Should I show my love only to some persons? Questions about love expressions are numerous. There’s a mythology that love just happens which makes some people sit around passively waiting for someone to love them. It doesn’t work that way. You have to go out and be active. You can’t give out what you don’t have. Love yourself first so you can be able to love others. Love is a policy without terms and conditions. So be open because love is genuine when you take off the masks, otherwise it’s a ruse.

Remember this:
Love is everything loving! Love should be your culture! Love is universal! Love is life! Love is sacrificial! Love is nothing without love! Let love rule!
